Responsibilities: Following my first semester of Divinity School, I applied for, and received an appointment, in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s Collegiate Congregational Internship program. As a ministry intern, I shadowed the senior pastor at First Baptist Church throughout the summer, assisted other staff members with their ministry efforts as needed and developed my own ministry strategy for the summer. Over the course of 10 weeks I prepared and preached three sermons, chaperoned a week-long youth retreat, planned and lead mid-week services for the youth group, lead two worship services at a local assisted living facility, taught a Sunday School class, lead small group devotionals, developed and taught a five-week adult Bible study focused on the classic spiritual disciplines, accompanied church staff on hospital visits, met with home-bound church members, assisted with Vacation Bible School and participated in weekly staff meetings to help plan Sunday morning worship services.
